Fernando Moreira is a third-generation tracker, trained through a direct lineage passed from his grandfather to his father, and ultimately to him. This knowledge was forged through field use, repetition, and operational necessity—not classroom theory or recreational tracking. Since 1995, Fernando has trained military personnel, law enforcement officers, and Search & Rescue teams in advanced man-tracking and operational sign interpretation. His instruction is designed for real missions: fugitive apprehension, missing persons searches, crime scene tracking, and high-risk operations where failure is not an option. Fernando has assisted law enforcement agencies in locating critical evidence during numerous high-profile missing persons and homicide investigations across the United States, including operations in Alaska and Hawaii. His tracking methods have been applied under time pressure, environmental stress, and operational risk—conditions where precision and discipline determine outcomes. Training is uncompromising and reality-based. Students are trained to read ground sign, movement patterns, environmental disturbance, and behavioral indicators while maintaining situational awareness, noise discipline, and tactical control. This is not demonstration-based instruction—it is operational tracking for professionals who will be required to perform under stress. Tracking is treated as a combat multiplier and investigative force tool, not a hobby. Lives, evidence, and officer safety depend on doing it right. Every mission. Every track. Every step.

Currently serving with the 129th Security Forces Squadron, he is the Assistant Section Chief for Combat Arms Training and Maintenance (CATM), leading and mentoring a high-performance team responsible for force protection, weapons qualification, and mission readiness of over 1,000 wing personnel across multiple weapons systems, while maintaining full accountability of all base armament. A certified tactical instructor and train-the-trainer, he delivers mission-driven, high-intensity training focused on real-world combat and operational scenarios. He consistently achieves a 99.5% first-time shooter qualification rate by enforcing standards, coaching precision, and instilling combat-ready discipline. With over 13 years of operational experience and dual AFSCs in Security Forces and Combat Arms, he brings unmatched expertise in small arms, advanced tactics, and field operations. He is a recognized Expeditionary Active Shooter Training (E.A.S.T.) Instructor, U.S. Army Cold Weather Operations (Arctic Tab) Graduate, and Subject Matter Expert in breaching, IED recognition/defeat, tactical tracking, land navigation, and explosive safety. For over a decade, he has served as Assistant Instructor at the Fernando Moreira Tactical & Combat Tracking School, training local, state, and federal agencies in high-threat tracking, pursuit operations, and operational movement tactics. Operational deployments include Forward Operating Base Shindand, Afghanistan (2014), attached to 2-5 Infantry, Task Force Bobcat, and Kuwait (2017), alongside multiple CONUS training missions at Fort Bliss, Fort McCoy, and Lackland AFB. Decorated with the Air and Space Commendation Medal, Air and Space Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Combat Readiness Medal, and the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon (with device), he also holds multiple unit and service awards. He provides elite-level instruction in small arms employment, advanced tactics, survival operations, and tactical tracking, making him a force multiplier for SOF, military, and law enforcement units requiring operational-ready, combat-focused training.

Lance Van Buren began his tracking education nearly 40 years ago. Attending his first survival school/ tracking course taught by renowned tracker and survival instructor Tom Brown Jr in 1987. After that introduction into the world of tracking he devoured every book on the subject he could find and continued taking various tracking courses along with stints as a volunteer at El Yunque National Rain Forest in Puerto Rico assisting in locating lost hikers. Ultimately his love for tracking led him to a career in law enforcement primarily focused on back country regions searching for individuals attempting to avoid detection and apprehension in addition to SARs for lost or hurt hikers in remote locations. During this time, he met Fernando Moreira who sharpened his sign cutting and man tracking skills. Having tracked individuals in various environments ranging from the rain forest to coastal grasslands to the rugged mountains of the southwest desert. Lance Van Buren brings a wealth of real-world knowledge and sign cutting/tracking tips and tricks that he looks forward to teaching you.
